The Husky Tales -- Part 1

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, In : Stories

Hi!  My name is Holly, and I might be off base,

but these dogs that I live with, are all a basket case!

They’re all young and hyper, and they bounce off the walls.

And they tend to ignore their owner’s calls.

  Unlike me, I’m older now.

I’m calm and I’m tepid, This much I vow!

You see, I’m the oldest…the oldest of all.

I was the first of many Huskies, born in 2007, late in the fall.

Was there ever a time when I was that bad?

There is no way in ****! I was never ...

The Husky Report, 11-21-18

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

A quick Pre-Thanksgiving update!

Winter is rapidly approaching,  and we are hustling to prepare everything for its onslaught.  The back wall is finished, complete with new windows and insulation.  The old stalls in the northwest corner are gone and the two windows have been replaced, as well as the framing and insulation.  The corner is ready for the new stalls that will be there.  In the front (southwest) corner, 2 small windows have been added as well.  The entire barn is now insulated, mi...

The Husky Report, 10-2-18

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

A lot has happened on the farm since our last blog!  Our apologies for the delays in keeping up to date!

The spring/summer litters are all now in their new homes:

Very Cool and Interesting Colors

A few of our spring litter’s had interesting colors (a few agouti and dirty faced pups) as Gypsy and Quinn had their first litters.  Some of our most beautiful pups came from these litters!  We loved the colors so much that it enticed us to purchase Onyx.  (More on her later)

Final Litters/Ret...

In Memory of our Beloved Holly

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

As was announced yesterday, Our beloved Holly passed away at the age of 10. Born on December 11th, 2007, Holly was our very first Husky.  She was one of the original 3, as we like to call them.  Holly, Daisie Mae, and Brutus were our first 3 huskies, and set the tone for what is now a wonderful business.  They are all gone now, but will forever live in our hearts and certainly will live on through their children and grandchildren.  Holly was truly a unique Husky that taught us almost everythi...

The Husky Report, 2/25/18

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Sunday, February 25, 2018, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

It’s that time of the year!  The wonderful mud and muck that arrives in the late winter and early spring.  While there wasn’t much in the way of snow melt-off this year, there hasn’t been a shortage of rain.  The play area for the dogs has become a muddy mess.  Bag after bag of pine pellets have certainly been helpful, but Mother Nature has been quite relentless of late.  The pine pellets break down into saw dust and do a great job in absorbing moisture.  A little goes a long way, but w...

The Husky Report, 12-22-17

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Friday, December 22, 2017, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

Christmas season is upon us, and all of the decorations are up including the Nativity, the lights, and the tree.  The lawn mower, grill, and other “summer” items are tucked away for the winter.  Soon, the snow will fly.

In past seasons, as the fans in the barn get put away, the electric buckets and heat lamps come out.  This year is a little different.  We did put out the heat lamps for all of the pups, and will likely do the same for the upcoming litters, but they will not be needed a...

Feeding Frenzy

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Monday, November 6, 2017, In : Stories

When you have 20+ dogs, regardless of breed, feeding time is always an experience.  There really are no shortcuts in terms of what works well and not as well.  Over time, you can definitely pick up on the dogs preferences and nuances.  Some of them are…well…funny.  Just some observations from watching them eat over the years…

Holly:  Will not eat outside.  Only in the house.  Lays on the floor with her head resting on the side of the bowl, the bowl tilted, and she rarely comes up for...

The Husky Report, 10-27-17

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Friday, October 27, 2017, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

*  Once again, I’ve slacked a little with blogging, and it’s now been a few months since the last one.  So I am long overdue with updates!

*  The summer litters are all now in their new homes.  Overall, it was a disappointing summer and early fall puppy-wise.  Since Luna’s litter in April, we only had 3 litters.  (Ice, Ziva, & Josie)  Many of the anticipated heat cycles were delayed longer than expected.  The good news is that we are now looking at a very active fall and winter.  As of...

The Husky Report, 7/17/17

Ice has given birth to 5 pups!  4-females and 1 male.  The male is all-white, and the females are white, red and white, and 2 gray and whites.  They were born early Sunday morning July 9th, a little behind their anticipated arrival of July the 4th.  They are sold or are sale pending.  The expected go home time will be Labor Day Weekend.  Ziva meanwhile, is expected to give birth any time now.  She is looking big, so we feel the possibility of a big litter exists.  But as with every other litt...

Patience

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, In : Tech Talk

In this world of instant gratification which we now live, patience is a very rare commodity.  It started decades ago with items such as instant cameras and instant oatmeal, and today has gotten a lot worse with the age of instant information.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way in the puppy world.  We are continuously amazed and amused by the people that call, text, or email 2 days before Christmas in hopes of getting a puppy for their loved one, and expect to have it in their posses...

The Husky Report, 6/20/17

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

Summer is now fully upon us.  The heat is on, the fans are out, and the swimming pools and water tubs are being used regularly.  Summer projects are in full swing.  We are now up to 4 completed new stalls, and are on target to pour the cement barn floor with floor drain by the end of the summer.  At that point, we should have at least 7 completed stalls.  This fall, we then figure to remove all remaining old style stalls along the west wall, and build the new stalls on that side.   Next sprin...

The Husky Report, 5/5/17

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Friday, May 5, 2017, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

Almost a month has gone by since the last blog post…already!

Up until this week, we have had a very nice spring.  This week has been a dose of reality, but overall I have been able to accomplish a lot on the new stalls.  As of the last blog post, we had 2 completed, with a third almost complete.  As of now, there are still only 2 complete, but 3 more are almost there and the framing for the final 2 on the east side is underway.  Arrangements have been made to begin the cement floor which w...

Spring is finally in the air!  And I am LONG overdue for a blog and as usual, there are many updates.
Mild Winter

It was actually a very mild winter, with very little snow.  I like a mild winter, but there are 2 reasons why a cold, snowy winter is acceptable.  One that we all know is that the dogs really do love running and playing in the snow.  We haven’t had much to speak of in the last few winters, and I think they have forgotten what it’s like.  Two, It seems that the harsher the win...

It’s the Holiday Season!
The Holiday Season is upon us.  With Thanksgiving behind us and the celebration of Christmas upcoming, it is always a busy time of the year.  Here at the farm, it is no different.  In our last report, we mentioned the late summer lull.  We anticipated the next round of puppies to arrive in the November time frame.  Well, nature tends to do things its own way sometimes!  We can finally confidently pinpoint the arrival of our next round of litters.  We expect 5 litters...

It’s been many months since our last “Husky Report”, and we now have many new families that are part of the Frosty Meadow Family.  In our last update, we were saying goodbye to the last of the late winter/early spring puppies.  Since that point, there were 4 additional litters.  Josie, Rose, Ice, and Aleu all had litters, and all the pups went to their new homes in July.  We welcome all of the new families!

Tech Talk...Heat Stroke in Dogs

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Friday, May 20, 2016, In : Tech Talk
Heatstroke in Dogs

I pulled the following excerpt from the internet, and thought it was good information with summer right around the corner.  It's important to pay close attention to our dogs!

"Dogs pant to regulate body temperature, as dogs have fewer sweat glands than humans, and most of their sweat glands are located along the base of their feet.  By panting, a dog can cool the mouth and tongue, along with blood which is circulated through the head, keeping body temperature at a safe an...

Tech Talk...The Shedding Season

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, In : Tech Talk

Brush it out, comb it out, blow it out…but NEVER cut it, or worse, shave it!

Siberian Huskies are notorious shedders.  Their coats consist of two layers.  An inner coat and an outer coat.  The softer inner coat serves as an insulator for the cold of winter, making them able to withstand temperatures as low as 50-60 degrees below zero!  The more coarse outer coat serves two purposes.  During the winter, it acts as a “raincoat” to help protect them from the snow, ice, and rain. Durin...

The grip of old man winter has finally loosened, and the sights, sound, and smells of Spring are in the air!  It was a relatively mild winter, but it was still winter nonetheless.  We can now turn our focus to the projects and activities that arrive with the warmer weather:

  • To start things off, we say goodbye to the large number of puppies that arrived this winter.  Mylah, Nadia, Ember, and Miya all had litters within 10 days of each other, and we are now in the final stages of them going t...

Goals for 2016, and beyond

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Monday, January 11, 2016, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

I mentioned in my last post that I would outline our goals for 2016.  In a continuous effort to better the lives of our Huskies, and also to make our lives easier, we are often brainstorming on different projects to accomplish.  In 2015 we were finally able to begin phase 1 of the new barn stalls.  We changed out the large corner stall with a dirt floor to 2 smaller (yet still quite large) stalls with a concrete floor.  We wanted test out the concrete floor before moving forward to learn th...

  • Aleu’s puppies recently went to their new homes.  Thanks to all the new puppy owners!  This was Aleu’s 4th litter, and we anticipate 1-2 more litters and then it will be time for retirement.
  • The November litters have arrived.  After much anticipation, the 4 litters we’ve been talking about for some time now finally arrived:

Now that summer has wound down and Autumn is beginning, it’s time for another Husky Report.  Plenty going on, so let’s get to it:

  • First and foremost, Most of you by now know of the passing of our beloved Daisie Mae.  She was one of our original 3 huskies.  (Along with Holly and Brutus)  Of the 3, only Holly now survives.  We will miss Daisie.  She had her own demeanor that will never be duplicated!
  • Saturday, we had our 5th annual Husky Reunion.  It was in our opinion, very successful!...

  • First and foremost, the anticipated barrage of litters for summer and fall have begun.  While we cannot be certain for a few more weeks, we believe Aleu, Miya, and Ember to be pregnant.  Aleu and Ember are non...

  • Rose’s puppies are 8 weeks old, and 6 of the 7 are in their new homes!  We welcome the Brennan, Tuggle, Ross, Karacia, and Wolfram families to Frosty Meadow!

The Husky Report...4/27/15

Every year in the spring, it seems there is a week weather-wise that we’d all just as soon forget.  This past week was one of those weeks.  After opening all the barn windows last week, this week decided to relentlessly blow cold air and rain into them.  For the most part, the dogs didn’t mind, but I did put the plexiglass back up for the stall with the puppies.  They weren’t too fond of the elements.

Mylah’s puppies are now three weeks old.  Both are sold.  They are…shall we say...

Tuesday Tech Talk...Identification of puppies

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, In : Tech Talk

This is a repeat post from the past, but the subject invariably arises with every litter of puppies.

“How will you be able to tell them apart?”  or  “Are you sure you will be able to tell which one is mine when we pick him/her up?”  The answer is yes we can, but it is not easy.

Some litters are easy to distinguish.  An example of this is Rose’s litter from early 2013.  Six puppies, four different color combinations and the ones that were the same were 1 male and 1 female.

With Nadia’s puppies now in their new homes, and Miya’s puppies soon going to their new homes, we felt a good topic for today’s “TechTalk” would be feeding your husky.  When you bring home your new husky puppy, obviously you need to stop and get some food.  Many ask us what we have been feeding them, so they can get some of the same.  (It’s not good to abruptly switch foods).  Normally we use “4-Health” brand Puppy Food, which we consider to be a very good brand, and we provid...

  • Daisie's pups are now 5 weeks old (tomorrow), and are a handful!  They went in for their vet check-up yesterday, and are good to go!  They are about 90% weaned, and will soon be fully weaned.  Daisie didn't give us much choice this time around.  At about 4 weeks, she pretty much shut them down.  Other than the occasional snack, Daisie has avoided them.  But that's ok.  That many puppies is simply too much to keep up with fo...

The Husky Report...4-9-14

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

“And the rain, rain, rain; came down, down, down; in rushing little riv’lets; ‘Til the river crept out of its bed, and crept right into Piglets.”

  • Back before Christmas, this song popped into my head, due to the flooding rains at that time.  Seems it wouldn’t be the only time in these few months!  This flood, in terms of the stalls, was worse than the one a few months ago.  Once again, the dogs seemed to enjoy it.  Demon specifically, was jumping up and down into a pool of water i...

4-2-14 update

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

A big week here at the farm!

  • As expected, Daisie gave birth to a large litter of puppies Saturday.  The litter was larger than expected.  Eleven total puppies, which is a new Frosty Meadow Farms record! (Previous was 10 by Miya, Holly, and Daisie.)  There were 5-all white (1-F, 4-M) and 5-black and white (3-F, 2-M).  One unfortunately, was stillborn.
  • Daisie is now labeled as “SuperMom”.  We are likely going to retire her now, after 4 large litters.   She is coming up on 6 years old, a...

Weekly update, back to Wednesday!

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

Before starting into this week’s update, I will be sure to mention that today is Heather’s birthday.  Not only is Heather my beautiful wife, but also my best friend and business partner here at Frosty Meadow Farms.  She handles a lot of the behind the scenes items that go unnoticed many times.  Things like medical care, shots, pictures, and overall care for the dogs.  She certainly provides the nurturing side that is vital for the overall happiness and comfort of the Huskies.

Update from the farm....

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Friday, March 21, 2014, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

A little late on the weekly update this time around!

  • As spring finally starts, and Nadia’s puppies are all in their new homes, it’s time to look ahead to warmer weather!  I’m sure winter is not yet finished, but we finally get some warmer, tolerable days mixed in.
  • The first thing to focus on as better weather arrives, is switching back over to standard water buckets.  The electric buckets are nice, but the dogs simply can’t keep their curious snouts out of trouble.  This winter ...

Our Journey with Chance

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, In : Tech Talk

Today is the first birthday of Holly and Kallen’s 2013 litter!  This is the litter that included Chance, so we thought a would be good to tell the story of “Our Journey with Chance”.   This is a timeline of events showing the courageous and remarkable fight of a tiny puppy with not only an incredible will to live, but also his playful spirit despite his circumstances.

Chance is a beautiful husky, born on 3/18/2013, 1 of 10 puppies.  While this was a very large litter, all puppies...

Update Time!

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

After a week of not having a posted update, we are back this week.  Lot’s going on!

  • Nadia’s puppies are 7 ½ weeks old, and as of Saturday, the final pup will be in his new home.  Once again, thanks to all who purchased puppies!  A special thanks goes to Jeff and Jessica, who bought their second puppy!  Bocephus, (Bo) joins Kenzee, who is happy to have a new chew toy…er…I mean playmate!
  • Many people when picking up their new puppies, ask if it’s hard to see them go.  We can hones...

What's going on in our world...2-26-14

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings
  • Yesterday the puppies turned 5 weeks old, and they are becoming more and more ornery and playful.  They love chasing everyone around, including Chance, Nadia, Akira, Billy, and of course all of us.
  • Their appetites are enormous, (as is typical) and now they are completely weaned from mama.  It becomes tough to keep them apart, but we’ve been successful.  The biggest issue is the nighttime whining.  Thank goodness, for the sake of everyone’s sanity, they quiet down eventually!
  • When the ...

Weekly update for 2-19-14

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

It’s Humpday!  And time again for the weekly update with miscellaneous tidbits…

  • Nadia’s pups are now 4 weeks old.  They are officially becoming like typical 4 week old puppies.  Like the 2-year old human baby, the 4-week old puppy develops this thing we all call curiosity.  It’s time to nail down all the loose ends!
  • Of course it takes a long time (if ever) to outgrow this phase, right Chance?
  • Speaking of Chance, he is doing very well with the puppies.  Normally we don’t let ou...

Wednesday Weekly Update, on Thursday

I tried to post an update yesterday, but it just wouldn't upload right.  Computers...Can't live them, Can't live without them!

As I write this, I have visions of warmer weather, grill outs, baseball, and spring/summer projects.  I know that not everyone is disliking this cold weather.  One of our puppy owners, Megan, (Yuki's owner, from Miya's 2012 Litter) is enjoying time on the mushing trails.
Here is a post she made on Facebook:

Weekly Update 2-5-14

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings
  • Another snow storm, and then a round of cold and nasty.  (Yawn)  Is it Spring yet?
  • Of course the Huskies love it...At least playing in it.  I tend to think that in the end, they prefer it to be at least above 25.  Cold enough to snow, but not this ridiculous nonsense we are calling the winter of 2013/2014.
  • We had to open the third stall back up.  It seems Aleu is starting her heat cycle, and we are skipping this one.  So she is now with Holly.  No boys allowed. :-)

Update time!

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings
After yet another hiatus from blogging, I am back for an update.  Not much typically happens when the weather turns cold, but this year is absurd!
  • Obviously, the dogs still love to run and play, but as cold as its been, even they are finished after about an hour.  I understand it when a Husky that normally lives in the house can’t tolerate the extreme cold as well.  Chance and Akira are limited and Nadia is little miss prissy (more on her later).  However,  you know it’s cold when all of...

Wednesday Weekly Update

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings
  • As mentioned in a previous post, we are anxiously awaiting the birth of Nadia and Chance's puppies.  They are due over the next week or so.  This litter will be a little different than all the others in the past.  Being Nadia and Chance are house Huskies, this will be a learning experience.  We have everything planned as far as keeping Nadia and the puppies separated from Chance and Akira.
  • The biggest issue is that Chance has no trouble escaping the fenced area.  We always have to watch him ...

Weekly (close enough) update:

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings
It's been an eventful week/week-and-a-half here at the farm!

  • As if the Holidays aren't enough to keep everyone hopping this time of year, the weather had us really going.
  • We go from flooding rains, to snow, COLD, and wind.
  • Before this year, we have never had to deal with the "Polar Vortex" that is just now moving out of here.  With Huskies, the winter weather is not normally much of an issue.  As long as they have their shelter, plenty of food and water, and they get their exercise, there are ...

Thursday Throwback...Our 5th Litter

On today's edition of Thursday Throwback, we look at our 5th litter.  This litter was born 8-10-11 to Miya and Denali. It was a large litter, containing 8 puppies.  One of the puppies want a tiny runt which we tried our best to save, but in the end it simply would not take any milk from either us or Miya.  It died after holding on for a few days.  The seven surviving puppies included:  Jasper, Koda, Mika, Bella, Que, Keika, and Akila.

Wednesday Weekly Update...And Now, the Meltoff

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings
  • After a couple weeks of snow and cold, we are now set for a rainy melt off.  It happens a couple times a year.  One big rain and a couple days of warmer temps, coupled with a melting snow pack, leads to flooding.  Here at the farm, The corner stall, as well as the horse stalls, are in the line of fire.  They tend to get wet and eventually puddle up.  It's Equine Fresh to the rescue.  Equine Fresh is a brand of horse bedding, ostensibly made to absorb moisture from horse stalls.  It is simply ...

Wednesday Weekly Update for 12-11-13

  • Daisie is starting to behave like her cycle will be soon.  More moody, more talkative, and bouncing off the walls, etc.  Meanwhile, the boys are starting to show interest.
  • Speaking of which, Denali has a nice little gash on the top of his foot.  A result of him and Demon fighting through the stall wall.  So it’s nurse Heather to the rescue.  It’s healing nicely now, and we moved Denali and Daisie to the corner.
  • Due to the extra cold nights, I am having to pay closer attention to...

Sunday Funnies...A weekend of Snow Much Fun!

  • Of course Zach and I had our fun in the snow with them as well.  We had the sled out, and while the dogs didn't pull it, they had fun with it.  Mostly chasing us around.

Meet the Siberian Huskies, Part 12…Nadia

Next in line for our Friday Focus is Nadia.  Nadia's story was special, and almost worthy of a "Saturday Stories" post.  Since she is now over a year old, her story is sometimes forgotten.  She is the daughter of Daisie and Denali, born 11-22-12.  The litter was very large, with 10 puppies in all.  When litters are that big, it's not uncommon to have small puppies, or even runts.  In most cases unfortunately, a runt won't survive.  We have had r...

The coldest weekend of the year doesn’t do much for us humans in terms of getting things done outdoors, but it does provide for some additional “Huskyisms”!  As I watch from a wind-shielded area, it never ceases to amaze me how much they love the cold.

Meet the Siberian Huskies, Part 11…Kallen

In early 2012, as we started to expand on the number of females in our pack, we decided it was also time to add another male.  Kallen came to us from Southern Indiana in the late spring of 2012.  At first, Kallen was on the shy and reserved side.  But it didn’t take him long to warm up to everyone.  He and Rose hit it off immediately, and became playground buddies.  As Kallen grew, he became more and more mischievous.  If there are dogs getting...

Should I be a Husky Owner? Part 2

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, In : Tech Talk

Last week, we discussed the many great advantages of the Siberian Husky.  While there are a lot of great things about them, there are also pitfalls.  To many, the pitfalls can far outweigh the good.  The purpose here is to educate everyone to both, and let everyone decide for themselves whether or not a Husky is right for them.

A Siberian Husky is a high maintenance dog.  Most Husky owners find it best to develop a routine that helps minimize the issues, and being very smart dogs, a Husk...

Wednesday Weekly Update for 10-30-13

As October comes to a close, we are starting to prepare for winter.  In the back play area, we decided to make a “doghouse” out of the deck.  This is mostly for Akira, Chance, and Nadia.  They do get to come in the house, but spend most of their time out there.  As with most Huskies, they PREFER it outside during the winter, but mostly this is for the rain, snow, wind, or brutal cold.  They go under there a lot anyway, but now it is more sheltered.  So far, they seem to like it.

We always ask the question, “Have you ever OWNED a Husky?

Most of the time, honestly, the answer is either “yes”, or “no, but we did some research and know the downfalls.”  Inevitably however, we come across someone who knows nothing about them.  It is at that point we must give them the lesson in ...

Halloween in Fletcher

Our kids are now older, but several years ago when we moved out to our first mini-farm in Fletcher, we attended the community “trick-or-treat” night in Fletcher.  For a very tiny town, Fletcher always impressed me with this annual event.  Anywhere else I’ve lived, trick-or-treat night has been fun, but it has not been the “big event” that it is in Fletcher.  In Fletch...

Wednesday Weekly Update for 10-23-13

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings
  • Milton has been delivered.  I don’t officially think that Milton will be his name, but that’s what the finders called him.  Kyle, his new owner, picked him up on Saturday.  Seems like a great fit.
  • It was great to see such an interest in Milton.  It has been our hope to be a rescue farm in addition to a breeder, and this is a step in that direction.
  • Things are moving back to normal, as we tend to day to day life with eleven Huskies.  There always seem to be an issue with one or a...

Saturday Stories…Cheyenne’s Travels

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Saturday, October 19, 2013, In : Stories

On today’s edition of Saturday Stories, we are going to shift focus to one of the puppies that came from Frosty Meadow Farms, as opposed to our own Huskies.  Cheyenne comes from Daisie and Denali’s latest litter, born 11-22-12.  She is about 11 months old as of this writing.  Today’s story is about the many travels of Cheyenne.   Information from this story comes from Cheyenne’s owners, Rob and Tonya.

Has anyone ever stopped to wonder how much our Husky gets to see over their l...

Friday Focus..Cartoon Alter Ego, Aleu

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Friday, October 18, 2013, In : Friday Focus

Time for another “Cartoon Alter Ego”, and this time we will take a look at Aleu.  Last week’s “Friday Focus” was about her, so we will follow suit with her cartoon comparison.  The reason for these comparisons, (besides for fun) is to give the reader an idea of how they act on a regular basis.  Some of the comparisons stand out and are obvious, and some we had to think about a little more.

Aleu was a tough case.  As mentioned in the Friday Focus, she is a very loving and hypera...

Wednesday Weekly Update for 10-16-13

Miya’s puppies are all now in their new homes, and the feedback has been positive.  We welcome all the new owners to the Frosty Meadow Family!

Miya is back to normal, and she is the Miya of old!  She is back to running around causing trouble (in a playing sense), then having the “who me?” innocent look on her face!

Miya and Daisie, the two that are going through a second coat blow, are almost complete.  This should be it for the year, as colder weather is setting in and they will ...

What is the difference between a goal and a dream?

With many things in life, people have a goal and people have a dream.  The question I pose to you is, “When does a dream become a goal?”

This is the story of two frogs.   A story that poses the question, “What can we accomplish when are backs are against the wall?”  I hope you enjoy the story, and read into the philosophical points it represents!

Friday Focus: Meet the Siberian Huskies, Part 9…Aleu

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Friday, October 11, 2013, In : Friday Focus

Our next Husky in line was Aleu.  By this time, we decided that expanding the pack was going to continue to be an integral part of our future plans.  We had decided that we only wanted to focus on Siberian Huskies of AKC Pedigree and Lineage.  To this point, all of our Huskies (except Sheba) were black and white, all-white, or gray and white.  We decided to look for a red and white, since we had some individuals inquiring on red and white puppies.  In March of 2010, we found a 10 week old...

Still no word on whether or not Miya or Rose will be having puppies this year.  We will certainly be keeping an eye on the situation.  Beyond that, Daisie is next in line, and we anticipate a...

Winter’s coming! (but not here yet)

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, In : Tech Talk

This week on Tuesday Tech Talk, I will talk about a few things everyone should keep in mind as winter approaches.  But first, I wanted to mention that sometimes Huskies blow their coats a second time.  If you are experiencing this, keep in mind it’s normal.  As the warmer weather started back in the spring, most Huskies started to “blow” or shed their inner coat.   Typically, by mid-summer, this process is complete, and they stay that way until nature tells them it’s time to grow ...

In today’s “Cartoon Alter Ego”, we will talk about Nadia.  She was born in Daisie and Denali’s latest litter, born 11-22-12.  Nadia was the runt of the litter.  This litter was very large, consisting of 10 puppies!  When you have large litters, it’s typical to have some smaller than others.  Nadia was an extreme case.  She was less than half the size of the rest at birth, and remained about half their size as she grew.  Today, she is around 35 lbs., which is still about 10-20 lbs ...

What do I feed my husky??

With Miya’s puppies soon going to their new homes, we felt a good topic for today’s “TechTalk” would be feeding your husky.  When you bring home your new husky puppy, obviously you need to stop and get some food.  Many ask us what we have been feeding them, so they can get some of the same.  (It’s not good to abruptly switch foods).  Normally we use “4-Health” brand Puppy Food, which we consider to be a very good brand, and we provide a few meals wor...

In today’s edition of "Friday Focus", we will do a Cartoon Alter Ego.  This being another re-post about Demon.

From the very beginning, Demon has been tough to figure out.  He certainly hasn’t lived up to his name!  He has always had a very “standoffish” behavior.  Even as a puppy, Demon preferred to be off on his own, and rarely get involved in the running around with the others.  He would on occasion, but mostly he prefers to sit back and watch.  The only theory I can come up with ...

These resilient little creatures are among the most hated insects on earth, and when an infestation occurs, steps need to be taken or they spread very quickly.

I wrote here about them last year because they came around with a vengeance after no signs of them for several years.  This year, we are feeling some of the residual effects from them.  They are much lower in...

This inspirational story will make you smile, but it is also full of words of wisdom. Many times in life we are like the pot, we see what we can't do rather than seeing what we can do.

A water bearer in China had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole, which he carried across his neck.  One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water. At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only...

Siberian Huskies are NOT human!

As I was out watching the dogs the other day, I noticed (as I have many times before) that they all seem to want to eat anything.  So today I thought I’d touch on something that basically is to remind us that Siberian Huskies (and dogs in general) are not human.  Sounds pretty straight forward I know, but when you think about it, we all need to be reminded once in a while.

By nature, dogs are almost scavengers.  If you’ve ever sat and watched a dog be...

Saturday Stories...Holly the Escape Artist

Holly the escape artist

Over the years, Holly became known as the Houdini of Houdini’s.  Since she was our first Husky, It was “trial by fire”, and we had to learn quickly what worked and what didn’t.  Stalls were often husky-proof, but not Holly-proof.  It was because of Holly that I came up with the 5-point husky escape plan:

1.       Jump it

2.       Climb it

3.       Go through it

4.       Go under it

5.       Outsmart it

From that first stall, every one I have built since has...

Brush it out, comb it out, blow it out…but NEVER cut it, or worse, shave it!

This is a re-post from a while back.  In light of a recent conversation, I thought it would be good to post again.

Siberian Huskies are notorious shedders.  Their coats consist of two layers.  An inner coat and an outer coat.  The softer inner coat serves as an insulator for the cold of winter, making them able to withstand temperatures as low as 50-60 degrees below zero!  The more coarse outer coat serves tw...

Something we have always done here at Frosty Meadow Husky Farm, is try to make the Huskies as comfortable as possible.  Giving them as much space as possible, giving them companionship, keeping them protected from the elements in the winter, and providing ample air flow in the summer, are just a few of the things we do for them.  We are always looking for ways to improve on their quality of life.  One of the things we have learned along the way though is that not everything goes as planned.  ...

Tuesday Tech Talk...Identifying puppies

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, In : Tech Talk

One of the most commonly asked questions when people come to look at and choose a puppy is, “How will you be able to tell them apart?”  or  “Are you sure you will be able to tell which one is mine when we pick him/her up?”  The answer is yes we can, but it is not easy.

Some litters are easy to distinguish.  An example of this is Rose’s litter from early 2013.  Six puppies, four different color combinations and the ones that were the same were 1 male and 1 female.

There are times...

  • Miya's time is coming soon!  The long anticipated wait for her puppies is almost here.  Likely, it will be in the next week or so.  We will keep everyone informed here, on the puppy page, and on Facebook as that day arrives.
  • Miya is a little strange when it comes to birthing her puppies.  We have a nice comfortable carpeted area for them during the birth and nursing of the puppies, and most of them love it.  Miya however, prefers to dig a hole.  I know t...

Tuesday Tech Talk...What is Animal Digest?

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, In : Tech Talk

Now that the fair is winding down, it's time to get back to regular post!

This week on Tuesday Tech Talk, I felt it was time to re-visit the issues concerning dog foods.  Many of you have seen this information, but it also serves as a reminder.  In the coming weeks, we will dig deeper into which foods we recommend and which ones we don’t.

Animal Digest

What is Animal Digest, and is it good or bad for my dog?

Ever look at the ingredients on a bag of standard over-the-counter dog food?  S...

Fair Follies!

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Monday, August 12, 2013, In : General

In lieu of there being no Sunday Funnies (as well as Thurs, Fri, and Sat posts) this week due to the fair, today’s post, instead of Monday Motivation, will be notes and tidbits from observations I made at the fair over the weekend.

  • Not saying there is anything wrong with this, but you will not find a larger collection of pick-up trucks and John Deere caps assembled in one location than at the county fair!
  • People come to the fair for a variety of reasons.  To show animals, for other co...

Wednesday Weekly Update for 8-7-13

  • Miya is now really starting to show.  We figure her due date to be in the vicinity of August 18-20. She has been officially moved to the birthing stall.  I am not sure she likes the solitude at this point, but at the day approaches, she will be glad.
  • The summer coat blowing season is finally in the homestretch.  Only Demon and Denali are still in process, and they are both at about 75% complete.  Kallen and Miya don’t seem to want to lose much this yea...

Tuesday Tech Talk...Is it Rough Play, or is it a Fight?

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, In : Tech Talk

I recently read a lot about individuals asking how to stop their two huskies from fighting with each other.  It got me to thinking about what is considered an actual fight, and what is more rough play.  There IS a difference.  Did I emphasize that enough?  A HUGE difference.  And you really don't know the difference until you know the difference.

I will warn everyone reading this that this is not for the faint of heart.

First, let me explain the levels:

1)       Level One -- Normal Pla...

The Story of the Chinese Bamboo Tree.

Many have heard the story of the Chinese bamboo tree.  I’ve heard variations, but they all boil down to the same philosophical lesson.  As the story goes, to plant a bamboo tree, you take a 12-15 inch stalk from an existing tree.  You dig a hole, and plant it standing up, covering it completely.

Bamboo trees typically exist in rain forests.  The reason for this is they must be watered daily, and kept moist.  Now, I don’t know all the exact detai...

The Sunday Funnies!

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Sunday, August 4, 2013, In : Sunday Funnies
It's time again for the Sunday Funnies as we are getting ready for the upcoming fair.  The dogs were out as usual, and were being their normal goofy selves.
  • All the dogs are out except Miya, who is pregnant and has an attitude.  Which is typical.  She was out with me on a leash and we were walking around the fenced area.  Lots of growling but Miya was safe outside the fence.  Or should I say the others were safe inside.  If I let her in, there would surely be a fight.  More on that subject i...

Saturday Stories...The name game

The Name Game (Updated, and re-posted from a few months ago.)

I was pondering recently how many names everyone has come up with over the years.  So I took it upon myself to make the list and see if we all covered the alphabet.  As you can see, not quite yet.  We are still missing a dozen or so names, but there are 4 letters not covered.  F,U,W,&X.

There were a few instances that a name was used more than once, and I didn’t include multiples.

As you can see, the letters “K”, “M”...

Meet the Siberian Huskies, Part 4…Denali and Demon

In today’s edition of “Friday Focus”, we will focus on both Demon and Denali.  Since they are brothers, their stories are similar.   In February of 2009, we started looking to expand the pack by adding another male.  We wanted to stay with AKC, and in our searches we found Denali and Demon.   We were actually looking for a black and white Husky, and found Demon.  When we went to pick him up, we discovered that an all-white Husky wa...

Cartoon Alter Ego's...Akira

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Thursday, August 1, 2013, In : Friday Focus

Today is Akira’s turn for a Cartoon Alter Ego.  Akira came to us via rescue in 2009.  Her previous owners brought her to us when one became allergic.  Originally, we put her with the other dogs in the stalls, but realized quickly that she was not fitting in.  Her extremely friendly and timid nature did not mesh well with the others who wanted to play aggressively.  At the time, we had no Huskies in the house, and decided she would be a good fit there.  Now 5 years old, Akira has become a ...

It’s Wednesday…and it’s time for the weekly update:

  • It’s been an uneventful week here at the farm.  It’s the “calm before the storm” week if you will.  Next week the fair begins, and most of the preparations have been made.  So now we wait.
  • The hay field was cut for the second time this past week.  We split the hay 50/50 with the guy that cuts and bales it.   Last year, it was cut four times and due to a dry summer, our share was only about 180 bales total.  This year, it’s been a very good season so far.  In two cuts, we already ec...

In light of a couple conversations I had recently, I felt it would be a good time today on Tuesday Tech Talk to re-visit the need for rescuing Huskies.  On occasion, we get calls from various individuals wanting us to take in their Husky.  There are a variety of reasons it may be needed.  The Husky was found, the owner was not aware of the pitfalls of owning a husky, and sometimes even because of the Husky’s natural predatory instincts are causing issues of local animals.  Whatever the ca...

Sunday Funnies.....

Or at least a trial size after a very busy weekend.  Jenna's soccer team had one last Summer soccer tournament this weekend.  So most of the weekend (for Jenna and me anyway) was spent on the road.  So after no Saturday post, I will try to get in an abbreviated Sunday post!  (Ok...enough excuses!)

Friday Focus -- Daisie Mae

Meet the Siberian Huskies, Part 3…Daisie

Daisie was our third Siberian Husky, and our first AKC Pedigree.  She came to us in July of 2008.  We quickly learned that her personality was a bit different than Holly and Brutus.  She was more moody, aggressive (toward other animals only), and domineering.  Daisie and Holly have always seemed to be in competition with each other over human attention.  If one is getting it, the other comes running.  Unlike Holly, Daisie has a desire to be a lapd...

Cartoon Alter Egos – Kallen

Our segment today in “Cartoon Alter Egos” will focus on Kallen.  Kallen is about a year and a half old, but still very much in the puppy stage.  I guess you could say he is a dog teenager.  While most Husky puppies are very playful and bounce around a lot, Kallen seems to have it down to a science!  To Denali, Demon, and the older females, he is the “annoying little brother” that always wants to hang out with the big kids.  To Nadia and Chance, he is the “mean older brother” and i...

It’s time again for the Wednesday Weekly update:

  • Miya is starting to show.  She is in her 5 week of pregnancy, and depending on the size of the litter, that is usually the point where they start to swell up enough to notice.  With smaller litters (like Aleu’s litters), sometimes it is difficult to tell until about 6-7 weeks.  Both of Miya’s litters have been on the larger side, and we anticipate this will be the same.  The fact that she is swelling a little at this point tells us she...

Heatstroke in Dogs

I pulled the following excerpt from the internet, and thought it was good information based on the heat this summer.  It's important to pay close attention to our dogs!

"Dogs pant to regulate body temperature, as dogs have fewer sweat glands than humans, and most of their sweat glands are located along the base of their feet.  By panting, a dog can cool the mouth and tongue, along with blood which is circulated through the head, keeping body temperature at a safe and normal level.  Althoug...

Plato's mentor was Socrates. Plato thought Socrates was the wisest person of this time and he passionately desired to learn all of Socrates' wisdom.
Legend has it that one day Socrates and Plato were walking down the beach deep in conversation. At one point, Socrates said to Plato, "Walk with me into the ocean." They turned and walked into the sea together.
Now, in your imagination, picture that happening:  Student and teacher, two of the greatest philosophers of histo...

Tuesday Tech Talk -- Husky Hydration

On our first “Tuesday Tech Talk” segment, we will start with something relatively simple.  Obviously Huskies (or dogs in general) need hydration.  While it’s obvious that during these hot months it’s especially true, it is also true throughout the rest of the year as well.  One tip we try to utilize as often as possible is to save any unused broth when boiling any type of meat.  Many times we will boil chicken for a particular recipe.  If the broth isn’t needed, we simply put it t...

In today’s rendition of “Stories”, I am going back a few years to the old house, about a year after we first got Dan, our horse that recently and tragically passed away.  The pasture at the old house was fenced on all four sides and kept Dan in place, but being a standard farm fence, it didn’t do a good job of keeping the dogs contained.  More importantly, the fence could not continue over the creek that ran through the middle.  It stopped on both sides, and continued after the cr...

Our first Siberian Husky was Holly.  To this day, she is our most active and athletic dog.  We noticed early on that that she also seemed to take charge when out playing.  Whenever she runs, the others tend to follow her.  She seems a natural leader.  My belief is she would make a great lead dog on a sled team.   Holly is also very smart tends to be stubborn.  She is without a doubt, our chief escape artist.  Since Siberian Huskies love to run so ...

With no success in our attempts to feed him, we decided it was time for a vet visit.  He was taken in this evening, and they performed a Barium Swallow Xray on him, and discovered that he had a "persistent right aortic arch".  In layman's terms, he was born with his aorta wrapped around his esophogus and pinching it off.  It is open just large enough for a liquid diet, and therefore had no trouble growing older on mother's milk.
Unfortunately, the only fix is surgery.  It is a very ri...

Special Thursday edition of the Sunday Funnies

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Thursday, March 28, 2013, In : Sunday Funnies

3-28-13

In lieu of being out of town last weekend and this weekend being Easter, I took the opportunity to jot down my notes and observations while watching the dogs as they play.  They run and play on a regular basis, but only on occasion do I get the opportunity to observe and take notes.  Today, Zach and I were out practicing golf shots while they played.

·         Aleu and Holly are limited in their time out, mostly because they don’t want to go out.  Typical for new mothers.  It u...

Uneventful weekend, Husky-wise

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Monday, March 25, 2013, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings
Due to a out of town soccer tournament, There was no renditions of "Saturday Stories", or "Sunday Funnies" this week.  Thanks go out to Taylor and Meranda for tending to the animals in our absence, and a great job goes out to Jenna's soccer team even though they didn't quite make the championship game.
Hopefully, everything will get back to normal now.

Aleu Delivers!!

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Saturday, March 23, 2013, In : Puppies

As we woke up this morning, we expected it to be the day that we said goodbye to all of Rose's puppies, and that was the case.  However, it turned out to be Goodbye to Rose's pups and Hello to Aleu's!  Aleu gave birth this morning to 5 puppies.  Three were all white, and two were black and white.  The white one are male, and the black and white are female.  I suppose the fact that the two black and white are female is a good thing, because out of Holly's 10, only two were female.  So Holly an...

Off to the vet!

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Thursday, March 21, 2013, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings
The excitement of Holly's puppies is dwindling down.  Time to again focus on getting Rose's puppies ready for their new homes.  Today was vet visit day.   All puppies had their physicals and shots, as well as another dose of worm medication.  They will start heading for their new homes tomorrow!
Update on Aleu:
She is appearing more and more pregnant! Likely a small litter as I mentioned before, but we are still happy to see the progress.
Meanwhile, the others had their normal active day out. ...

The day has arrived!

3-19-13

Today I am combining the post from 3-18 and 3-19, because it has been a VERY busy day at the farm!  We finally get to announce the arrival of Holly’s puppies!!  Labor began yesterday around noon, and after a long day, evening, and night, she had 10 puppies in the end!  We believe she is done, but will update if that number changes.  They are all black and white, with a couple having some gray.  All of Holly’s puppies to date have been black and white regardless of father.  This...

Sunday funnies!

3-17-13

A happy St. Patrick’s Day to everyone!   Time for another rendition of the Sunday funnies.   (Well, I see the funny, if no one else does)  J

·         Holly is officially as big as a house!  If she has fewer than 8 puppies, I will be surprised.  I am surprised, however, that she has not yet given birth.

·         Meanwhile, over in the direction of Aleu, the jury is still out.  She seems to now be getting bigger.  She has always been difficult to figure out.  She has ...

Fail!

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Saturday, March 16, 2013, In : Frosty Meadow Happenings

3-15-13

Well, Nadia failed the test today.

Up to this point, she has been left in the house overnight and during the day when no one is here.  Both Nadia and Akira come in overnight.  Akira is fully house trained, but Stink is only about 80% there.  If someone is here, no problem.  We let her out as needed.  Overnight is still a little too long for her so we put down a puppy pad.  She knows to go only there.  During the day, we simply let out Akira.  As a Husky, Akira is….well….differe...

There is nothing to report today, other than that there is nothing to report.  :-)
We are still patiently waiting on Holly, and still holding onto hope that Aleu is also going to have pups.  Rose's puppies are pdoing great, and very playful as is typical!  We just sent out the 5-week picture updates, and plan on updating the pics on this site soon.

·         Holly is ready to give birth.  Here she is lying inside her box.  Usually, she comes running when anyone comes out.  This will be Holly’s 4th litter, so she is likely to only have one more before retiring her.  At this point, we have not ruled out a 6th, but that would absolutely be the last.  It will depend on her health and our vet’s opinion.  She has been a great mother, and has produced some of the best puppies!

Sunday Tidbits!

3-10-13

Sunday Tidbits and observations!

·         It’s great to see a nice snowfall.  No doubt the dogs love that.  With every snowfall however, comes the eventual melt off.  Today was 60 degrees, and while the warmth is wonderful, the tradeoff is MUD!

·         It is an absolute mess out here, and the dogs really don’t mind a bit.  Sometimes I think they like it better than snow.

·         Oh, and joyous news!  What better to follow up a slopfest with the prediction...

Of puppies and snowfall

·         The snow didn’t disappoint.  At least the dogs.  We got about 6-8 inches.  Akira and Nadia went out this morning and were running around having a great time.  I think they forgot they had to do their business.  Too much fun!

·         This was Nadia’s first real snowfall that she got to play in.  For the storm after Christmas, she was only about 4 weeks old, and didn’t get to play in it.  She had a BLAST!  The rest of the dogs will get to play this afternoo...

·         Not much activity today.  Getting ready for the big snow storm.  Right now, it is a cold rain, to the point of a very good soaking.  Makes for a very sloppy premises.

·          I was out in the barn for a period of time, and let some of the dogs out to keep me company.  Of course I have to close up the barn entirely, make sure the cats are out, and the chickens are in their pen.  Holly, Daisie, Aleu, Kallen, and Miya all joined me at different times.  Usually no more t...

·         Rose’s pups are getting chubby.  They are getting around well.  They like the warmth of the box with the heat lamp, but they also love to run around and play everywhere else too.  They will be 4 weeks on Wednesday, so in another week or so they will be weaned.

More observations....

Sunday 3-3-13

More random thoughts and observations as Heather and I take care of chores while the dogs are out playing and Aria is in her pasture:

1)      If I wasn’t certain Nadia was Daisie’s puppy, I would be convinced she was Holly’s!  The two are very similar.  The snack today while they played was carrots.  Yes they love carrots!  If there is food present of any kind, Holly and Nadia are always first in line.  They both have “the stare”.  They all love the snacks, bu...

Reflections

Saturday 3-2-13

Looking back over the last several months, I’ve been reflecting on the many deaths to our animals.  It started with Grace, one of our horses, and then a while later it was a series of dogs.  Sheba, Brutus, and Peyton, and then came Eddie, our house cat.  And then this past week when Dan, another horse passed away.  It’s very easy to lose focus and wonder if it’s all worth it.  But then I went out to see Rose’s puppies and it made me realize the lives that were brought...

Spring around the corner!

Friday 3-1-13

March is finally here!  It came in like a lion.  (cold/rain/snow/nasty)  By rule, this means it goes out like a lamb.  (warmer, sunny) (hopefully!)  Akira and Nadia were running around in circles outside, long enough to almost wear a pattern in the grass.  One thing is for certain…come springtime, we will need to fertilize the dog area and also the horse pasture.  Probably even spread some grass seed.  Winter usually takes its toll on the grass in the animal areas.  It should...

It was a very busy weekend here at the farm.  In a 4 day span, all 6 of Rose's puppies were officially sold.  They are not even two weeks old until tomorrow (2-20) so they will remain with us for several more weeks.  In addition to going through the normal preparatory process for Rose's puppies, we are getting ready for Holly's litter and Aleu's litter in mid-March.

Puppies were born last night!

Posted by Andrew Kronenberger on Thursday, February 7, 2013, In : Puppies

As expected, Rose gave birth to her puppies late last night! There were 6 total, 4-female and 2-male. Colors were very interesting. Two were white with a light tannish red tint, two were gray and white and looked a lot like Kallen, but the other two had interesting mixes of gray and red. As they get older, we will be able to tell better whether they grow toward red and white, wolf gray and white, or the very rare sable and white, which is red roots and gray/black tips. Pictures soon!!

As mentioned in a previous post, we are coming up on our next round of puppies.  Rose is expected to have her first litter in week or so.  Rose had her first heat cycle very early. (At around 6 months!)  Normally, the first comes 8-12 months, but Rose was an early bloomer.  There was some miscommunication over who the Father was going to be between Heather and myself.  I thought she had said it was Demon, but in our discussions she told me it wasn't him, but rather Kallen.  I did not think Ka...

We lost a very dear member of the family 11-17-12. I went out yesterday morning as I usually do to let the dogs out to play, when I discovered Brutus had died in the overnight hours. We brought Brutus to our vet for an autopsy to figure out what had happened, mainly to make sure it was not a contagious disease that the others could contract. The vet determined that Brutus’ digestive tract had malfunctioned, and he was completely backed up and had internal bleeding. Since there were no ext...

* In early August, we were swamped with activity due to the Miami County Fair, and visits to the farm by future puppy owners.
* September brought us the 2nd Annual Husky Reunion, plus the continuous flow of future puppy owners.

All I can say is it's a good thing that we prepared this past weekend for the birth of Daisie's pups! Yesterday, I mentioned in this blog that it could be any time in the next 10-14 days. Well, they were indeed born last night!! We knew it was possible, but were not expecting it. Our calculations zeroed in on the end of the month, but the Lord works in mysterious ways. Daisie is really getting big!  Only another 10-14 days until the pups arrive.  Meanwhile, preparations are moving forward.  She certainly loves her accomodations, complete with a pair of heat lamps.  Huskies love the cold to be certain, but also like it when she has both warm and cold spots to use as she pleases.  It's critical the puppies are kept warm. Daisie would do a good job herself, but she needs to take a break from caring for them once in a while. They are born with minimal fur, and ...

While we can't be certain this early, we believe Holly is pregnant!  The father is Denali.  Hollies last litter, the father was Brutus, and the puppies were all sweet and fun-loving.  Holly's temperament is VERY sweet, and Brutus is a "gentle giant".  Very calm and tranquil. Denali is not much different than Brutus.  He also has a calm personality.  The biggest difference is color.  Brutus is Black/Gray and White, Denali is all-white.  We expect the puppies to be a mix of black and white and ...
